Am 30.Mai 2016 fand im Kreisky Forum die Konferenz „Vision for next Europe. How to cope with a fundamental political re-set of the Union?“ statt. Eine der Teilnehmer_innen war die Politologin Ulrike Guérot, Gründerin des European Democracy Lab in Berlin. Der Wiener Zeitung gab sie nun ein Interview.
Is the EU still a success story and a cornerstone of European stability and prosperity? Currently, the EU faces a range of political and economic pressures, including slow growth and persistently high unemployment in many EU countries, as well as the rise of far-right populist parties, at least some of which harbor anti-EU or “euroskeptic” sentiments. Such factors are complicating the EU’s ability to deal with a multitude of unprecedented internal and external challenges. Among them: the definition of the external borders of the EU; the future of EU enlargement; the decision over a stronger EU (federalization, EU defence integration) or a two (or even three) speed Europe.
What Next Europe is going to be? How do we have to re-think the Union, the EU institutions? Do we get closer or fall apart? What if Brexit?

Paul Mason, geboren 1960, ist ein vielfach ausgezeichneter englischer Fernsehjournalist. Er arbeitete lange für die BBC und leitet heute die Wirtschaftsredaktion von Channel 4 News. Außerdem lehrt Mason als Gastprofessor an der Universität von Wolverhampton.

Laut dem Flüchtlingshilfswerk der Vereinten Nationen (UNHCR) lag der Anteil der Frauen und Kinder unter den nach Europa geflohenen Menschen im Jänner 2016 bei 55 Prozent, knapp mehr als die Hälfte (50,3 Prozent) der syrischen Flüchtlinge sind Frauen. Am 9. Mai kuratierte Viola Raheb den Workshop und die Paneldiscussion „The female face of refugees“. die Sichtbarmachung der aktuellen Situation von weiblichen Flüchtlingen in der Krisenregion, auf der Fluchtroute, auf europäischer und österreichischer Ebene. Über veränderte Genderrollen unter Flüchtenden sprachen Roula El Masri, Programmdirektorin für Gleichberechtigung des Resource Center for Gender Equality ABAAD aus dem Libanon und Beatrix Bücher-Aniyamuzaala, Koautorin der aktuellen Care-Studie über die Situation syrischer Frauen.

Im Jahr 2015 haben im Bruno Kreisky Forum für Internationalen Dialog unzählige Veranstaltungen stattgefunden. Eines der Highlights: der Besuch von Yanis Varoufakis Anfang November, der alle Rahmen gesprengt und im Audi Max der WU Wien stattgefunden hat.
